TUESDAY NIGHT TEENS PROGRAM: "DRINK WITH YOUR CUP - THINK WITH YOUR KUP" EVERY TUESDAY NIGHT AT THE COFFEE BEAN WITH

Our Tuesday Night Teen Program -- "Drink with Your Cup, and Think with Your Kup" -- continues at The Coffee Bean every week, with our teens learning and discussing with our professional Youth Advisor, Jared Friedman, any and all assorted concepts in Judaism -- while schmoozing about life, Youtube, texting, tweeting, football and water polo. YIOC runs this program for teens every Tuesday night, and Jared personally conducts the part-Torah-learning, part shoot-the-breeze discussion. And indeed discussions have touched on everything from Michael Jackson to high school football and ways to dunk the opponent in water polo without the referee noticing. YIOC -- the Shul that brought this concept in Jewish Teen Programming to Irvine and Orange County -- covers the cost of drinks and pastries for the teens. If you have teens in your home, please encourage them to come. And if you would like to support this program, your donations may be earmarked to our YIOC Teen Initiative, which Rav Fischer has brought to Irvine -- and which is proving so successful that it even is being copied now by other congregations in the region! YIOC’s FULL SCHEDULE OF ADULT JEWISH EDUCATION EXPANDS: HEBREW-SKILLS AND SIDDUR-NAVIGATION; TALMUD & CODES; CHUMASH AND COMMENTARIES; SHABBAT AFTERNOON NAVI

YIOC has launched not one, but two new Hebrew-Skills Classes for Adults: one meets every Monday evening from 6:45-7:45 p.m.; and the other meets every Monday evening from 7:45-8:30 pm. If your Hebrew is rusty, or if you have longed to learn Hebrew reading skills, now you can join with others at YIOC just like you who share the same desire. Together, we learn to read and improve our Hebrew reading, and we will learn real siddur-navigation skills. You attend class once each week, and we offer two distinctly different Hebrew class options.

YIOC LAUNCHES ORANGE COUNTY’S FIRST "OPEN YESHIVA FOR TEENS"

We at Young Israel of Orange County are responding to the urgent and severe crisis in Jewish education plaguing the teen Jewish population of Orange County. Nowhere in all of Orange County – a county of some 100,000-plus Jews – is there a single formal program to teach Jewish teens the classic Jewish subjects, ideas, concepts, and texts that are available to Jewish teens in virtually every other similarly sized community in America. No Chumash-and-Rashi. No formal teaching of Tefilah and Davening with tefillin. No Mishnah. No Talmud. Beginning this September, Rav Fischer begins our third year of teaching YIOC’s “Open Yeshiva for Teens” right here in Irvine. More information is available right here on our website.

Every Tuesday Night, from 7:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., Rav Fischer teaches “What’s Bothering Rashi?” – a mesmerizing Chumash-and-Rashi Class. It is real substantive Torah learning – in the text – and there is nothing else like it in all of Orange County. Great refreshments, too!

Every Thursday evening from 6:30-7:45 p.m. - Rav Fischer teaches Talmud class, focusing inside the text itself on Talmud (Mesekhet B’rakhot)Mishneh B’rurah (the authentic primary Torah text for Jewish living and life, rooted in the Shulchan Arukh) and Rambam’s MishnAh Torah. Pre-Registration is required. All our Torah classes are free.

“SATURDAY NIGHT AT THE MOVIES” WITH OUR RAV & REBBETZIN

We meet to see a great movie together the last Saturday night of every-other month. The flick is followed by a group discussion that Rav Fischer and Rebbetzin Ellen lead, considering a theme beneath the movie’s surface that raises serious issues for all of us seeking to synthesize our Jewish life values with the challenges of living in a wonderful American society. There is a nominal fee. And bring friends !

THE “HOT-BUTTON-ISSUES” ROUNDTABLE

(For YIOC Members Only) Meeting the First Monday Night of Every Month, Rav Fischer has launched a new YIOC Jewish education initiative – the monthly “Hot-Button-Issues Monthly Roundtable.” Because this group meets in the format of a Grad School “Seminar Roundtable,” we are compelled to limit attendance exclusively to YIOC Members. Attendance at each session is limited to no more than a maximum of twelve people – and limited exclusively to YIOC Members – who must pre-register at least a week in advance to attend that month’s session. (Couples count as “two” people.) Those “closed out” by space are at the top of the list for the following session. Participants are given textual materials to read in preparation for the session. The session consists of Rav Fischer’s presentation of the materials, followed by participants’ own robust “give-and-take” on contemporary “hot-button-issues” and their interplay with Jewish thought.
